Individual Guidance Services The counselor meets with children individually to help them develop skills in areas such as self concept, peer relations, communication, understanding and expressing feelings and coping skills. The school counselors role is to help the student cope with the current situation, so they will be able to be successful in the classroom. Student referrals may come from the classroom teacher, principal, or parent, or the student themselves.
Please Note The school counselor does NOT do psychotherapy or other techniques used in a clinical setting.
Confidentiality It is my goal to keep the lines of communication open between home and school. Please know that I always encourage children to talk to their parents/trusted adult about what we have discussed. However, I want your child to feel as though they can trust me and know that unless they give me permission or I am concerned about their safety or the safety of someone else, what we say in my room stays in my room. I am bound by law to report any concerns regarding the safety of anyone.
